Trying to figure out which Easter books for kids are worth having in your home? These are favorites for our family of 7 that have stood the test of time!
I love having a decent collection of seasonal books in our home library. But holiday picture books tend to get snatched up quickly from the library, so it’s hard to get them in time to celebrate. Also, there’s just something comforting and happy about pulling out the same seasonal books year after year. I love the nostalgia of having our own personal set of children’s holiday books, and Easter books for kids are no different.
Since we pull them out each year, I’m NOT interested in owning a bunch of children’s Easter books that I only moderately enjoy. I only want to keep the ones we really love.
Diverse Easter Books for Kids to Buy
With 5 kids over 10 years of parenthood, these are the books that have stood the test of time. Some are older classics, while others are newer winners. All are Easter books for kids that we personally own and that I’m delighted to reread every year. There’s something so delightful about pulling out all these Easter picture books in our home each year and I hope you love them, too!

Our Favorite Diverse Easter Books for Kids
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes
If I had to pick one Easter favorite, it would be this book. Mother Cottontail trains up her little bunnies in an effort to become the best and newest Easter bunny of all. Everything from the story to the illustrations are classic, charming, and sweet, and to read it is a delight. This egg-shaped board book version is perfect for the littlest listeners.
Too Many Carrots
This more recent favorite follows Rabbit’s journey to his friends’ homes with his giant stash of carrots. Unfortunately, Rabbit’s carrots take up ALL the space in their homes. Where will they all stay? A silly Easter book for kids with a sweet concluding message.
Available on Amazon, Bookshop, Walmart
Chicken Sunday
I love this story of a Russian American girl’s Black neighbors helping her purchase an Easter hat for their grandmother.
The Easter Egg by Jan Brett
No one does illustrations quite like Jan Brett, and they complement this sweet Easter tale perfectly. With vivid colors coloring an abundance of spring flowers, this book feels perfect for the season.
The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams
This classic children’s book isn’t specific to Easter, but is perfect for the season nonetheless. It’s tender and perfect for cuddling during a special season. Definitely one of the most classic Easter books for children.
Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
What parent doesn’t want to be that like that devoted mother bunny, ever-faithful to her child? This classic children’s Easter book is wonderful for reading in bed with a loved one.
Available on Amazon, Bookshop, Walmart
Easter in Ramallah
I always love stories of shared cultures, and I love this one of Christians and Muslims sharing holiday traditions in Palestine.
A Very Happy Easter
This interactive Easter book going through the different phases of the holiday is perfect for young children.
The Tale of Three Trees by Angela Elwell Hunt & Tim Jonke
I love having a couple of traditional and religious books in the holiday mix. This is a beautiful children’s Easter book to help kids understand Christ’s sacrifice.
Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Lichtenheld
Even my almost 10 year old loves the humor in this simple little story. Two off-screen character debate whether the image presented is a duck or a rabbit. Which one will you pick?
Rechenka’s Eggs by Patricia Polacco
I love the gorgeous illustrations in this tale reminiscent of true Ukrainian painted eggs. A beautiful and folksy addition to your collection of Easter books for kids.
Dance of the Eggshells: Baile De Los Cascarones
I love this bilingual story of the tradition of a traditional dance accompanied by gently crushing cascarones, or eggshells.
Beatrix Potter Treasury
Does it get more classic than Peter Rabbit? The Tale of Peter Rabbit and her other tales are exquisite year round, but particularly lovely around Easter. We visited her home in the UK a few years ago, and it delights me to remember the surroundings she pulled so beautifully into her tales.
If you’re looking for other versions, this gift set is so sweetly encased, or you can purchase a stand alone board book version of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Or this touch and feel Peter Rabbit story is perfect for tiny kiddos!
I hope you enjoy these Easter books for kids as much as we do!
