Copenhagen was one of our kids’ favorite cities this summer. Here are 10 tips for visiting CPH with kids!
1. Get a museum pass! I feel like these can be hit or miss depending on the city. The Copenhagen Card is amazing; we didn’t get them & wished we had. They include public transit & almost all of the sites we wanted to visit.

2. On that note, use public transit. It’s super convenient, clean, & free for kids
3. Pick one royal venue to visit. Denmark has a plethora of castles & palaces with incredible histories. We Rosenborg because we wanted to see the Crown Jewels, but I’m sure any of them would be fascinating. Kids (& adults!) can enjoy so many royal rooms, so I’d recommend visiting no more than two.
4. Plan out food ahead of time. Copenhagen has a really fantastic food scene. With so many excellent (and pricey) options, it’s helpful to have an idea of what is where, so when everyone is starving, you don’t waste your food dollars & calories on something sub-par.
5. Get on the water. Our kids loved the canal boat tour & it’s a fun way to see several main sites. Speaking of, visit the beach. I honestly didn’t have it on my radar (cold!!) but we were surprised by how nice (and not freezing) Amagerstrand was.
6. Visit the Experimentarium. Trust me, your whole family will love it.
7. Go to Tivoli in the evening. The light is gorgeous, there are parades and shows, & everything feels magical when all lit up.
8. Walk down Stroget. We weren’t sure how our kids would like this walking & shopping area, but they loved the giant LEGO stores (mix your own colors!), Illums Bolighus (Danish toys! Thanks to my sis @primadrex for making me go), and a few book shops.
9. Picnic in the Royal Library Garden. Gorgeous and uncrowded.
10. Include churches. CPH has several that are interesting for kids AND adults. Copenhagen Cathedral has giant and beautiful sculptures of Jesus and the Twelve Apostles (kids will love spotting symbols labeled on laminated cards), and Church of Our Savior has a cool exterior winding staircase.
