Best Simple Father's Day Gift

Last year, I started a tradition for Father’s Day. This simple and best Father’s Day gift ended up being our favorite Father’s Day gift we’ve ever given! This year, we’re continuing that tradition and it’s just as fun.

We’re big book lovers over here, especially picture books. But I tend to be the one who chooses a lot of the books, and engages with the kids through them. Dan loves them so much, as well, but often kindly defers to me because he knows it’s a forte and passion of mine.

I don’t particularly care about using Father’s Day as just another opportunity to buy Dan something that he may or may not need (or can easily purchase himself). But I do love the idea of getting him something special that is connective and actually encourages time together with the kids.

So I thought, wouldn’t it be wonderful for him to have a few special books that HE reads with the kids?

Meaningful and Easy Father’s Day Gift

So last year, I decided to get him a picture book to read with the kids. I had each of our kids do a handprint in the front of the book with paint (be sure to use washable paint so it doesn’t accidentally stain clothes!). I just painted their hand with a paintbrush and helped them press it on straight (the baby was a bit of a challenge but we got it!). Then I had the ones who were old enough to do so sign their name next to their handprints.

Then on Father’s Day, we gave him the book, and he read it with the kids later in the day. It was so special for all of them and this easy Fathers Day gift quickly became a favorite tradition.

This year, we celebrated Father’s Day a week early and it was just as beautiful. He actually read both last year’s book and this year’s book to the kids. This kids Father’s Day gift made for a perfect Sunday afternoon activity!
