I am so thrilled to be releasing the book titles and details for the 2022 FREE monthly Global Children’s Book Club! We are so thrilled to be “traveling” around the world to 12 different countries via books, discussions, videos, food, and more this year and hope you’ll join us! We’re especially excited to tie this year’s program into learning about different holidays around the world.
What Is The Global Children’s Book Club?
The Global Children’s Book Club is a way for families to learn about and virtually visit 12 different countries throughout 2022. For each month, I’ve chosen one country to feature, inspired by an important holiday celebrated there during that month. I’ve also selected one picture book and one chapter book to go along with each country.
The picture books relate to both the holiday & the country, while the chapter books primarily connect to just the country. As much as possible, I’ve tried my very best to choose books written by someone from the represented country’s culture. Families can choose to read either or both. I will also do a monthly read aloud of the picture book at the start of each month on Instagram.
Finally, I’ll also have a monthly blog post to learn more about the country if you wish, from brief facts, videos, crafts, recipes, music, additional book recommendations, and more.
What Books Will We Read?
You can find the full 2022 Global Children’s Book Club book list below, along with a printable passport to follow along with the books and countries!
What is the GCBC Participation Schedule?
There will be a few group activities every month on Tuesdays that go along with the country and books. These group activities will all take place on Instagram.
- 1st Tuesday of the Month: Picture book read aloud
- 2nd Tuesday of the Month: Book discussion of 1st half of the book
- 3rd Tuesday of the Month: Recipe Cook Along
- 4th Tuesday of the Month: Book discussion of the 2nd half of the book
What Age is Best for GCBC?
I always struggle to answer this question because I try really hard to choose books that will span a wide variety of ages and interests! The picture books are generally geared to children ages 3-8, and the chapter books are generally geared to families with children ages 7-12.
That said, we’ve had families with infants join in to get a head start on reading to their little ones. We’ve had families with high schoolers absolutely love some of the books that were “supposed” to be for 6 year olds. And as an adult, I honestly love reading them all myself. So even if you don’t have kids, you’re welcome to join!
How Much Does GCBC Cost?
To keep diverse reading accessible and exciting for families of all situations, the Global Children’s Book Club is 100% free. I also did my very best to choose books that would be readily available at local libraries. (And did you know you can generally request your library purchase books it does not currently own? More details here.)
