We had another birthday this month! We loved celebrating our 3rd kiddo and finding some fun 8 year old boy birthday gifts.
We spent the day having a special breakfast, playing at the park, and then visiting our local amusement park with takeout Indian food. So fun to have his special day on a Saturday this year!
Here are some of the things we got him!
Experience: Kayak Wildlife Tour
While all our kids love animals, T is our mega wildlife lover. He is constantly reading encyclopedias and National Geographic Kids magazines and loves all the animal facts he loves. We thought this would be a great opportunity to take him on a little kayak adventure to see some of the incredible wildlife in Monterey Bay.
Kids Pocketknife
We’ve gotten our two older kids a pocketknife for their 8th birthdays, as well, and T has been eagerly awaiting this milestone for years. I was still a bit hesitant, but we’ll have lots of safety conversations. 😉
I know there are lots of opinions on a best first knife. But I knew T would love all the little options for tinkering, so even thought it’s a bit heavier, I got him this one. He’s already used the little scissors and I’m sure he’ll love fiddling and exploring outside with all the other tools on it.
Books
T’s love of reading has exploded in the last few months and I was excited to pick out a few that I hope he loves. He read the first book in the Ralph S. Mouse series a few months ago on his kids’ Kindle, but the 2nd book wasn’t available at the library. While my older two are indifferent to reading physical books or on their Kindles, T still prefers physical books so I thought he’d love this box set.
He tends to prefer nonfiction, and I’ve been searching for some longer-form, plot-driven narrative nonfiction. I found a few great shorter options over the summer, and he’s ready for some that are a bit longer. I haven’t read Pax before, but have heard wonderful things and hope he loves it. And since our family loves National Parks, I thought this mystery focused on Rocky Mountain National Park would be perfect (more about our visit to that park in this blog post).
Solar Robot Kit
T is a major tinkerer and loved his younger brother’s circuit robot he got a couple months ago from a friend. We thought this space-themed solar robot that’s a bit more complex would be perfect for our newly minted 8 year old and he’s loved it.
We loved celebrating our final birthday of 2022! And hope these help if you have a kiddo this age, too. Do you have any favorite 8 year old birthday gifts for boys and girls? I’d love to hear as we have a few more 8 year olds to celebrate in the future!
