I always love looking back to see the most popular blog posts of the year. It’s so fun seeing what you all have enjoyed and found helpful both from home and when traveling! It also helps me see what content will be most useful to you in the new year – please know that I do look at this info and each time you visit my blog, I truly appreciate it and it let me know how I can better serve you.
2024 has been a weird year for blogging – there have been some significant algorithm changes and with AI, it’s taken a LOT of traffic away from blogs. Essentially, AI bots are taking information that creators have put so much hard work into putting in blog posts, and just summarizing them to give the info to the viewer. This means that our pages get much less traffic, which means a fraction of the ad revenue and affiliate income. I know I personally really appreciate personal experiences, opinions, and insights, and really hope my favorite bloggers continue to write and share.
In order for that to be sustainable for me and for others (and keep content FREE to you as a viewer, instead of putting it behind a paywall), here are a few basic things we can do:
- Don’t just read the AI summary at the top of a web search. Scroll down and actually click through to blogs to read. This may mean scrolling to the bottom of page 1, or even pages 2 & 3, to find great, personal content to click through to read.
- Directly visit blogs – go to the sites of your favorite creators and peruse their content.
- Be really thoughtful in your purchases, but if you do make one, see if you can find (or ask for!) an affiliate link from a creator.
- Send blogs/social media accounts of your favorite creators to your family & friends.
This truly means so much to me and all creators!
For now, I’m excited to share the 10 most popular posts from 2024 so you can see what others are loving. Have you read all of these blog posts? Which ones were helpful to you?
10. 10 Tips for Getting Over Toddler & Kid Jet Lag
I admit I personally reference this post multiple times this year. Sometimes it’s helpful to be reminded in writing of things you know you should do that will make your life easier. This is a good one to bookmark and share with a parent who loves travel and also loves (but doesn’t get enough) sleep. 😉
9. Best Olympic National Park Itinerary with Kids
This one wasn’t in the top 10 last year, so it’s fun to see it up there! Olympic is one of our very favorite national parks to recommend to fellow families, and I’m glad it’s been enjoyable for so many of you.
8. 20 Helpful Family Travel Products from a Mom of 6
Love sharing our favorite items to take along that are worth the cost and especially the weight of schlepping along with 6 kids.
7. Best 3 Day San Diego Itinerary with Kids
This one was in the top 20 list last year, so it’s fun to see it climb the ranks. San Diego is always a fun and popular destination for families with kids or not!
6. 10 Surprisingly Affordable Destinations for Family Holidays
I will be shocked if this post is ever NOT on the list – budget-friendly destinations are always popular!
5. 3 Days in Copenhagen with Kids
Copenhagen is such a terrific European destination! It doesn’t get nearly as much hype as London, Paris, or even Amsterdam, but it’s honestly so fun with so much to do for all ages (here are a bunch of reasons to visit Copenhagen with kids). Put it on your list if it’s not already, and make sure you reference some of these tips for visiting Copenhagen with kids.
4. Ultimate Guide to Prince Edward Island with Kids
This post all about a family visit to PEI was from several years ago, so I was surprised to see it jump back up! But I’m thrilled – PEI is honestly so dreamy and I would absolutely love to go back for longer someday (and not just because I’m a giant Anne of Green Gables fan).
3. Easy Sedona Hikes with Epic Views
Arizona continues to be a popular US domestic spot for families to visit – and with good reason. Sedona is a perfect mix of glorious beauty, fun trails and activities, and lovely weather. It’s one of our favorite places we’ve visited in the US!
2. 3 Day London Itinerary with Kids
Not surprised to see this on the list…but VERY surprised that it’s this 3-day itinerary instead of my (in my opinion) much better one-week London itinerary with kids. I guess people do just tend to choose shorter stays with more day trips or other adventures! This is a good reminder to me to really update this 3-day one with some insights gleaned from a year and a half of living here and after writing my one-week itinerary (which I think is pretty darn perfect, if I do say so myself – really spend longer than a few days if you can!).
1. 3 Day Rome Itinerary with Kids
Surprising no one more than myself, my top post of the year was this 3-day Rome Itinerary with kids – I guess Rome is still perennially popular! I mean, yes, but still. It’s a great city!
And if you’re curious for which posts claimed spots 11-20, here they are:
